This section showcases the narrative elements included in our first version of the scenario. Sections 2.2-2.4 lay out the basice framework that define the major events, as depicted in each section. We intentionally kept the details to a minimum here, as we wanted this framework to hold up despite changes to the critical episodes and generic patterns.



Below is the background setting in which the events take place:

In a foreign, semi-hostile country. There is a large city which contains an American Embassy. There are ongoing local government military operations in the country, and the decision has just been made to evacuate approximately 1000 American citizens currently in the surrounding area of the city.

A rapid reaction Airborne Brigade that has been alerted to conduct the evacuation operation is notified of particularly hostile areas near the embassy. In one area it is known that two militant groups have a long history of fighting. One of the groups is known to be particularly hostile to the U.S, while the other one harbors mostly resentment to the other group but could conceivably pose a threat to the U.S. It is anticipated that most civilians are not hostile towards the U.S, however this could change quickly as a result of events.
