Scenario and Simulation Design to aid Fireground Commander Training and Skill Acquisition knowledge elicitation interviews, training observations, incident response ride-alongs, task analyses, doctrinal literature reviews, and accident analyses- we develop functional support requirements. This functional analysis leads to design requirements for new technologies that explicitly connects the cognitive demands of the work with the information required to perform it. Fire fighters make frequent life and death choices and must be well versed in critical decision making. Such skill is best acquired with experience and being able to effectively simulate scenarios that move beyond textbook cases for training exercises is crucial toward creating scenarios that capture what would be useful. These Scenarios must be physically and functionally plausible in order for practitioners to “buy in” on them.
